But the longer Yadriel spends with Julian, the less he wants to let him leave. Left with no choice, Yadriel agrees to help Julian, so that they can both get what they want. He’s determined to find out what happened and tie off some loose ends before he leaves. However, the ghost he summons is actually Julian Diaz, the school’s resident bad boy, and Julian is not about to go quietly into death. With the help of his cousin and best friend Maritza, he performs the ritual himself, and then sets out to find the ghost of his murdered cousin and set it free. Now…presenting the 2020 *Book Shimmy* Awards winners, as nominated and voted by you!

Onto the grand finale! A big round of applause to all the books nominated-that’s a lot of pages read and so much love shared! A feat in and of itself! The *Book Shimmy* awards give a voice to you, the community, and cannot have happened without everyone continuing to nominate, vote, and gush about books. We know from this past year alone how greatly life can be altered, but one thing that remains true is the passion of the YA community and the commitment to uplifting books and authors in this genre, stories that help us escape, learn, and feel empowered. Thank you book nerds for continuing to read and rave about your favorite books despite it all. In a year where physical awards shows have been postponed (or treated as one giant Zoom call), we have the *Book Shimmy* awards to fill that void in our lives. In a year where we couldn’t adventure outside and experience life as normal, we had books to live vicariously through and provide some comfort.
